The first installment of Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai was released in theatres on March 31, 2023. It is an adaptation of Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan. The film was also made available in Telugu under the title Vidudala Part 1. It was much appreciated by film critics as well as audiences. The movie is currently getting ready for its OTT launch. The film is available on Zee5 from 28th April 2023 in Tamil audio format with English subtitle.
Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of Vaathiyar, while Soori plays the primary protagonist role of a police constable. The movie marks a significant milestone in the career of actor Soori, who has been predominantly known for his comedic roles.
Viduthalai tells the story of tribal people fighting against corporate greed to protect their forest lands. Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon and Chetan among others have essayed key characters in the project which has music by Ilaiyaraaja.
Meanwhile, Soori playing the lead role in Kottukkaali.
