Malayalam superstar Mohanlal had reprised the role of Georgekutty in the sequel, which was written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor through the company Aashirvad Cinemas.
Drishyam borrowed its basic premise from the Japanese bestselling novel The Devotion of Suspect X written by Keigo Higashino. By the end of Drishyam, Georgekutty (Mohanlal) had successfully protected his wife and 2 daughters from a murder rap. Georgekutty interred the body in a place nobody would think to look – a police station still being constructed.
Drishyam 2 takes place six years after the events of Drishyam. The struggles of the Georgekutty family, which has now become the subject of gossip and ridicule in the village.
The intensity of the final one hour of glorious twists and turns contributed much to the success of the first part. There was something organic about how it all tied together in the end. And it received a unanimous thumbs up from critics and fans.
