Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj's next film "Jigarthanda DoubleX", is set to start the much-awaited sequel to his 2014 Tamil action-comedy film Jigarthanda. The film, which was reportedly inspired by the South Korean film "A Dirty Carnival", nudged a remake in Kannada with the same title (2016), in Telugu as Gaddalakonda Ganesh (2019) and in Hindi as Bachchhan Pandey (2022).
Jigarthanda starred Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Lakshmi Menon, Karunakaran and Guru Somasundaram. The film won two National Film Awards for best supporting actor for Simha and best editing for Vivek Harshan.

The sequel will start from where the first part left off and is touted as a high-octane action entertainer featuring Raghava Lawrence and S.J. Suryah as the leading protagonists.
The makers of the film are planning for a trilingual release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and are eyeing for the release sometime next year. Jigarthanda Double X will kickstart its shooting in Madurai.
